Program Analyst / Performance Auditor I Job Description

The Job

This position assists in conducting performance audits of state agencies (example: The Department of Transportation), quasi-public agencies (example: CT Lottery Corporation) or state-supported institutions (example: CT State Universities).

You will be helping to determine whether state agencies are operating efficiently & effectively, comply with laws & regulations, and are accomplishing their goals.

This position's duties include participating in the creation of audit plans in accordance with government auditing standards. On any given day, you will be examining, analyzing, and testing the internal controls, policies, and procedures of state agencies for compliance with state or federal laws and regulations.

In this role, you will use your judgement to develop recommendations for improvements. You will operate under the supervision of a senior analyst/auditor who reviews work for effectiveness and conformance with policy. Also, you will perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Successful completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a field related to performance auditing.
• One year of employment in professional performance audit or program evaluation work. Disciplines considered relevant to performance auditing include, but are not limited to, public administration, social sciences, political science, statistics, accounting, journalism, business, economics, and law. Professional audit or program evaluation work is interpreted as work performed as a performance auditor, legislative analyst, program evaluator, or related occupation.
• Strong preference given to candidates with a master's degree in public policy, public administration, business administration, accounting, or related field.

Allowed Substitutions

• A master's degree in public administration, public policy, business administration, or an allied discipline may be substituted for one year of the general experience.
• A certified public accountant certification may be substituted for one year of general experience.
