What is the APA?
The Auditors of Public Accounts (APA) is the coolest part of Connecticut government you've probably never heard of.
It's our job to look for areas of concern in state government and share our findings with the legislature and people of Connecticut. We discover things like abuse of taxpayer dollars and state agencies not following policies.
Have you ever heard on the news about a state agency abusing overtime? Or maybe a state agency that misused federal COVID-19 money? There's a good chance our auditors uncovered these problems!
What is auditing?
As a student, you've likely taken few, if any, auditing classes.
What is auditing anyway?
In very simple terms, auditors check the work of others.
Auditors examine things like financial statements and work processes. They strive to make sure the organization's work is accurate and compliant.
Here is what some of our past interns have said:
Why should you intern with the APA?
Your work at the APA is a public service. You will be working to make the State of Connecticut a better place to live!
You will also gain some solid work experience. Our interns are part of our auditing teams. They do real work and receive invaluable experience.
And finally, we are serious about work-life balance. Flexible workdays and a hybrid schedule allow you to craft a day that works for you and your class schedule.
